시놉시스Synopsis
18세기 프랑스. 당시 귀족 가문의 권위는 무엇보다도 식탁의 질에 달려 있다. 프랑스 혁명의 기운이 싹트던 그 시기, 미식은 여전히 귀족들의 전유물 같은 것이었다. 재능이 넘치던 요리사 망세롱은 자신이 모시던 샹포르 공작에 의해 해고되자 요리에 대한 열정을 잃어 버리고 시골에 있는 집으로 돌아간다. 귀향한 후 요리와는 상관없는 날을 보내던 그에게 어느 날 루이즈라는 정체가 묘연한 여인이 나타나 자신에게 요리를 가르쳐 달라고 애원한다. 처음에는 매몰차게 거절했지만, 그녀와 함께 하는 시간이 길어지면서 그는 점차 요리에 대한 열정을 회복하게 된다. 샹포르 공작에 대한 복수심을 간직한 두 사람은 마침내 프랑스 최초의 레스토랑을 열기로 결심한다.
France, 18th Century. The prestige of a noble house depends above all on the quality of its table. At the dawn of the French Revolution, gastronomy still is a prerogative of the aristocrats. When talented cooker Manceron is dismissed by the Duke of Chamfort, he loses the taste for cooking. Back in his country house, his meeting with the mysterious Louise gets him back on his feet. While they both feed a desire of revenge against the Duke, they decide to create the very first restaurant in France.

1964년 프랑스에서 태어났다. 1998년에 첫 번째 장편 영화 <<La sonrisa del payaso>(The Clown Smiles)가 개봉됐고, 이후 <Ca$h>(2008), <600 kilos d´or pur (In Gold We Trust>(2010), <Mes héros>(My Heroes, 2012), <Le goût des merveilles>(The Sense of Wonder, 2015), <L’esprit de famille>(The Father Figure, 2019)를 연출했다. 연출 외에 다른 감독을 위해 시나리오를 쓴 작품으로는 2004년작 <Le convoyeur> (Cash Truck)와 마티유 카소비츠 감독의 <바빌론 A.D>(2008)가 있다.
Éric Besnard (Meulan, France.1964) released his first feature film, <La sonrisa del payaso> (<The Clown Smiles>) in 1998. These were followed by <Ca$h> (2008), <600 kilos d´or pur> (<In Gold We Trust>, 2010), <Mes héros> (<My Heroes>, 2012), <Le goût des merveilles> (<The Sense of Wonder>, 2015) and <L’esprit de famille> (<The Father Figure>, 2019). He has also written screenplays for other directors, such as <Le convoyeur> (<Cash Truck,>, 2004) and Mathieu Kassovitz (<Babylon A.D.> (2008), co-written with Joseph Simas and Kassovitz himself).
