시놉시스Synopsis

<땅의 어머니>는 페루 안데스 산맥의 고원에서 땅을 일구며 살아가는 5명의 여성 농부를 조명한다. 안데스적 세계관에서는 땅과 여성이 매우 밀접하게 연결되어 있다고 믿고 있는데, 여성의 몸과 땅의 토양 모두 생명을 만들고 키울 수 있다는 공통점이 있기 때문이다. 영화 속 여성 농부들은 조상들의 전통 방식과 해와 달에 의지한 자연적인 방식으로 농사를 짓고 싶지만, 기후변화에 따라 급변하는 자연환경 속에서 쉽지 않은 현실과 마주한다. 점점 확대되는 농업의 산업화와 화학 살충제 및 유전자 변형 종자의 사용 등으로 환경이 파괴되고 있는 현재 상황에서 그녀들은 자신들의 건강한 삶을 지키고 후손들에게도 훼손되지 않은 땅을 물려주기 위해 고군분투한다. 영화가 세상을 바꿀 힘을 가지고 있다고 믿는 사르미엔토 형제는 인권 보호, 안데스 산맥과 페루 아마존의 환경보존에 초점을 맞춘 독립 다큐멘터리 작업에 주력하고 있다.

<Mothers of the Land> accompanies five women from the Andean highlands in their daily struggle to maintain a traditional and organic way of working the land. In the Andean Cosmovision, women and earth are strongly interrelated. Both, a women’s body and the earth’s soil are capable of giving and nurturing life. In the context of an ever-growing industrialization of agriculture, the use of chemical pesticides and genetically modified seeds, it is women, who, connected to earth through bounds of sisterhood, take on the role of protectors. Alvaro and Diego Sarmiento devote to produce independent documentaries focused in the defense of human rights and environmental conservation in the Andes and the Amazon of Peru, because they believe that films have the power to change the world.
