시놉시스Synopsis
분주한 레스토랑, 셰프 로스코 ‘패티’ 아버클과 웨이터 버스터 키튼은 각각 주방과 홀에서 손님맞이에 한창이다. 제멋대로인 한 손님이 계산대의 여직원을 괴롭히자 키튼은 그녀를 도우러 나서고, 장내에는 한바탕 소동이 벌어진다. 초기 미국 무성영화의 대표적인 배우 겸 감독이자 찰리 채플린의 멘토로 알려진 아버클과, 그에게 발탁돼 함께한 영화들을 필두로 이후 무성영화 시대를 이끌었던 배우 겸 감독 키튼의 합작 중에서도 가장 완성도 높고 재미있는 작품으로 손꼽히는 슬랩스틱 코미디의 클래식.
At the Bull Pup Café, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle is chef of all trades and Buster Keaton waits tables in his own inimitable fashion. When a rambunctious customer annoys the pretty cashier, Keaton comes to her defense and all-out mayhem ensues. Long considered one of cinema’s holy grails, The Cook was discovered in 1998 among a cache of unidentified nitrate prints at the Norsk Film Institutt. Then in 2002, additional footage was discovered by the staff at the EYE Film Institute in Amsterdam! This edition combines the sources to approximate the original US release and proves The Cook to be one of the finest and funniest of the Arbuckle and Keaton collaborations.

Roscoe Conkling "Fatty" ARBUCKLE was an American silent film actor, comedian, director, and screenwriter. Starting at the Selig Polyscope Company he eventually moved to Keystone Studios, where he worked with Mabel NORMAND and Harold LLOYD. He mentored Charlie CHAPLIN and discovered Buster KEATON and Bob HOPE. ARBUCKLE was one of the most popular silent stars of the 1910s, and soon became one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood. His films were banned due to trials and scandals in 1921 and 1922, since then, he couldn’t fully recover his career.
